Damp, Dreary Days On Tap For WNC This Week

VLOG

Drizzle, Drizzle, & More Drizzle

That will be the theme for WNC over the course of this week unfortunately. Models bring in moisture ahead of a lingering front, and that moisture will make the next couple of days very dreary for the mountains. Below you can see a depiction of what to expect this evening and into tomorrow morning. The 18 hr simulated HRRR model shows rainfall becoming heavier early as we progress into the late hours of tonight and early hours of tomorrow morning.

Will Rainfall Become Heavy?

At times I believe over the next 3-4 days we could see bouts of heavy rain, but these short bursts will not last long and should move out of the area quickly. This will not be an extremely impact fully event, and flooding should be kept to a minimum, if any even occurs. As far as totals go, below you can see the most recent GFS model depiction of total precip expected to fall over the next 5 days. 1.2” is not a very impactful amount of rainfall to fall, so that is why I am not really concerned with flooding. This will just be an annoying rainfall that doesn’t seem to let up.

When Will It End?

Chances look better for a dry weekend, but some models still hint at some lingering moisture. The good news is that when this front finally moves through, cooler temperatures will follow! WE could begin to see morning in the low to mid 50’s, and it will finally feel like September! Check back soon for another update with details about the cool down, and when it will occur!
