On Our Trip..

Hot Springs Resort and Spa provided Nicole and I with a 1 night stay in the Wana Luna suite to celebrate my birthday. With a Jacuzzi tub that has naturally healing spring water on tap, I couldn’t wait to relinquish the stress of forecasting. We arrived around 4pm and drove through town, (which didn’t take long) to take in the scenery. Then, craving those healing waters, we checked into our suite at Hot Springs Resort & Spa.

The Wana Luna Suite

Situated right next to the rushing French Broad River, the Wana Luna Suite is the perfect oasis to host your mountain getaway. Complete with a king size bed, in-room hot tub with natural healing waters piped in, and a separate sitting room... you will feel right at home as you heal your soul. These mineral water filled tubs will be sure to ease those achy bones of yours. The resort also offer a spa area that includes personal massages as well!

The soaking tub has natural hot spring water taped from deep in the earth, piped right into the jet tub. It takes around 20-30 minutes to fill, but you can soak for however long your soul desires! Then after you have soaked, grab a warm Hot Springs Resort & Spa robe to relax in the king size bed or on the porch as the water rushes by.

The staff was extremely accommodating, and the room was extremely clean! The bed was also super comfy. Waking up and being able to have my morning coffee right next to the French Broad was such a treat. I could even catch up on local new with the door open and still hear the water rushing down the river. This suite has so many perks, it’s hard to illustrate each and every one.

The Town of Hot Springs, NC

Hot Springs is a very small town, with a population of only 574 people.. but tourism helps it thrive! It is located down in a valley along the French Broad River, just 5 or so miles from the NC/TN border in Madison County, NC. Its elevation above sea level is only 1337’ compared to Asheville which sits at 2250’. As you can see in the video, we drove north into the mountains, but it was downhill most of the way!

Nicole & I wanted to explore the town in the evening to see how the locals spent their Saturday nights. We chose to dine at an ageless spot know as the Spring Creek Tavern. With live Bluegrass music vibing from the door, we entered into a classic NC tavern setting complete with several local brews, and a tapestry of WNC memorabilia painted along each wall. This place just oozed the mountain feeling that many come to the area in search of.

Their menu consists of the typical bar foods, wings, burgers, wraps, etc… But they also have a brick pizza oven where they can cook up gourmet pies. Nicole & I shared the nachos, and also shared hot wings. Each dish was delicious! We didn’t want to eat too much though, because Hot Springs Resort & Spa had book us an hour that night in the outdoor tubs right next to the French Broad River!

Outdoor Tubs At Hot Springs Resort & Spa

Hot Springs Resort & Spa was so gracious in accommodating our stay, and they also provided us with an hour in the outdoor hot tubs, nestled right up to the French Broad River. These massive hot tubs have steaming hot, natural mineral spring water piped in, and it makes your skin feel amazing! After an hour soak, it was amazing to get out of the tub and not have dry skin whatsoever!

This was one of our favorite parts of our trip. We soaked up the minerals, and talked about life for the entire hour. The resort also offers fire pits and has an eclectic welcome area if you have to wait for your tub to free up. This is a very popular attraction in Hot Springs, so make sure and book your tub in advance, or you could be waiting a while for one to become available. Each tub runs between $50-$60 an hour depending on the accommodations you choose, or you can select 90 minutes in the Signature Tub for around $150. It is well worth it in my opinion, because you come out feeling so relaxed and rejuvenated!

Beautiful Scenery

Hot Springs, NC offers up some of the most beautiful views that include the French Broad River in WNC. When we visited in mid November, the fall colors were still out in some spotty locations which was a very beautiful site to see. The Appalachian Trail also runs straight through Downtown Hot Springs, so there are several hikes that you can take including Lovers Leap.

The French Broad River runs directly along the property at Hot Springs Resort & Spa, making for a unique experience throughout your stay. It was incredible to be able to see the moving river water from our own personal tub in our Suite, and then to step out on the balcony to overlook the entire river was just inspiring.
